Family Photoshoot information

Some tips to help your family session run smoothly…

If your party includes children under four, please make sure the arranged shoot times work around nap times so the children are as well rested as possible.

Please bring snacks, a drink and, dare I say it, anything that might be used as (ahem) blackmail, just in case they need a little encouragement!

For little ones favourite toys are welcome, and welcome in shots too - we’ve even had a dinosaur tea party in the studio.

Studio shoots

Photographing children is a joint effort, and usually a lot of fun. We put on some tunes and I usually end up balancing something or other on my head. But mummy/daddy/grandparents will alway get the best smiles, so i’ll almost certainly be calling upon you to help get the best out of your little ones.

Clothes wise: The plainer the better and try and avoid bright clashing colours and logos. Avoid Anything that might date quickly and big blocks of black. Jeans, a plain top and bare feet work well, as does a pretty dress. Most importantly, Both you and the children need to be comfortable.

I try and keep a 1:1 ratio of adults to children under 4 in my studio, excluding me - this only applies if they’re mobile, i.e. crawling or walking. Its For their safety as obviously I have photographic equipment and backdrops out. if this is an issue, please discuss it with me in advance.

Outdoor / Location shoots

Location shoots are a lot of fun and we usually have a real giggle trying to raise a laugh. I’ll bring a blanket to avoid wet bottoms. Like with studio shoots, I’ll be calling on you to get the best smiles that are usually reserved for mum, dad or even grandparents.

Outfit wise: Obviously dress for the weather. I usually say to wear what you’d usually wear for a walk in the woods, or maybe your best ‘walk in the woods’ clothes.

As far as the weather goes - if it rains we’ll reschedule. But the British weather being what it is, we’ll wait until 24 hours before to call this as things change so quickly.

Lifestyle/ At your home

These shoots take place in your own home and garden. Whilst we’re not expecting a show home, it does help if as much clutter as possible is put away. However, please don’t be offended if we ask to move anything, this is simply to remove distractions so you and your family are the focus of the images.

We look forward to meeting you and your family soon,
