Newborns
Photographing newborn babies is my favourite type of shoot - and my speciality. I have trained with the UK's top newborn photographers including Shellie Wall and Maddie Rogers at The Newborn Workshops and Rob Mank. I am a member of BANPAS, the British Association of Newborn Photographers. BANPAS educate their members to have the knowledge and training to pose and photograph newborns safely. I am the only photographer in Berkhamsted, Tring and Hemel Hempstead who can offer the BANPAS PRO seal of approval.
I'm happy to capture your little one at any age but for the best chance at those beautiful posed, sleepy studio shots that you can see above, bring them to my Berkhamsted based home studio between four and 14 days old. Alternatively, if you'd like a more relaxed style, I offer Newborn at Home photoshoots, also known as Lifestyle photography. I recommend booking as soon as possible after your 20 week scan, we work with your due date, and when he or she makes an appearance just drop me a text and we finalise the details.
I always photograph newborns in the mornings, on weekdays, as they tend to have a long deep sleep. My style is quite natural and minimalist - I use a lot of knitted backdrops for beautiful texture and have wraps and a few hats and headbands only if you wish me to use them. If you have an item that means a lot to you - or that says a lot about you - which you would like included, then just let me know and I will find a way to incorporate it.
Newborn shoots usually take around two hours, but please allow up to four. Of course we'll do some parent shots, and include any siblings too, but mostly you get to sit, relax and have a cup of tea while I work with your little one. And don't worry about crying or any little accidents - it happens almost every time.
Please note: Hygiene and safety are our top concerns when it comes to your precious new bundles. The studio is thoroughly cleaned between each session and all props are cleaned and sanitised between clients. Newborn props in particular are kept and stored separately and washed at 60 degrees between each use.
***update March 2020 ref Corona Virus*** Please note we are sticking with our usual fastidious hygiene practices during this time. In accordance with public hygiene advice we will be using frequent and thorough hand washing over hand gel. As always the studio is cleaned between each shoot and all props are sanitised or washed at 60 degrees. If you have any concerns at all about this matter please do ask us.

Newborn At Home (Lifestyle shoots).
If you’d prefer your shoot and images to be a little less posed and a little more laid back then you might consider a Newborn Lifestyle shoot, or Newborn At Home as I call it. These shoots are suitable up until three weeks of age (if they’re full term). I use natural light and the features of your home to creature beautiful natural photographs. I do a little posing, if baby is up for it, and I’ll bring a few props such as blankets, wraps and a bowl. You don’t have to have a picture perfect home, worthy of a magazine shoot - I’ll find the perfect spots and backdrops (sometimes with a small amount of furniture rearranging! I do ask you to turn your heating right up before I arrive so baby is chilled out and sleepy.
